August 14, 2007-9/11 TECH TOOL USED IN SEARCH FOR ANGOLA
High tech equipment used to assess underground damage near the World Trade Center site after 9/11 will now assist archaeologists in the search for artifacts of an 1800’s slave settlement near Tampa Bay known as Angola.

May 3, 2007-Looking for Angola Expands to Underwater Investigation
A team of scholars from several Florida universities has enlisted the help of an underwater archaeological team from Mote Marine Laboratory to search for artifacts of an early 1800's Black Seminole settlement known as Angola. The group has been testing equipment this week and will officially begin the study, the first underwater archaeological research study ever conducted in the Manatee River, on Thursday, 5-3-07. The underwater survey has the potential to reveal information about the river's use by early communities. The investigation is part of an on-going project called, "Looking For Angola" (LFA).

September 2, 2006-Looking for Angola Expands Into the Classroom
Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte County, Florida teachers and students will soon have a unique opportunity to participate in the archaeological search for an early 1800's Black Seminole community called the Angola Settlement.

February 27, 2006-Looking for Angola Receives a Save Our History Award from the History Channel
Looking for Angola, a project aimed at discovering traces of a maroon community that thrived on Florida's west coast from 1812-1821, has been awarded a "Save Our History" grant from the The History Channel.
